The Rise and Fall of Charm in American Men →
Few possess it, and few want to. Explaining men’s ambivalent relationship with an amoral virtue.
Read a piece about charm in The Atlantic, read the comments, realize that the internet is where charm goes to die.

I went to an ear-nose-throat specialist about my ear (which, for those who don’t know, has not been functioning at 100%), and the physician prescribed this crazy balloon thing for me to use that looks like this:
which is supposed to clear the airways in my face and make me able to hear again. My inability to hear through my left ear has to do with my crappy left eustachian tube, apparently....
I am bored at work and probably malnourished. Stupid beets.

I almost let loose three or so snarky, snarky tweets and then discarded them because you know. Public. Future employers. Irritating others with negativity. I won’t complain about the last decade or the economy. I won’t. Or the uselessness of this master’s program. Nope. Whoops.

Survey | Qualtrics Survey Software →
laura-in-libraryland:
Drexel- you crack me up! I thought this was a serious survey, until it revealed itself.
P.S. After completing the survey, I am a bit mortified at home much I adhere to the “stereotype.” Yikes.
Took it. I have no cats, but have a few wearable items with cats on them. However, they were gifts from my aunt, who is a crazy cat lady! And she’s not a librarian.
I’ve been watching Youtube videos about Myers-Briggs personality functions, and I’m really stuck on whether I’m an INFJ or an ISFJ. I’d like to think I’m the first one, but maybe that’s optimistic.
Doing my best to get this cover letter under a page. How come when people make “improvements,” they just make it longer?
Don’t cry about it. Deal with it. My advice will be, whatever opportunity comes...

And speaking of opportunities, Qualia Coffee in Washington D.C. is seeking unpaid coffee-roasting interns for year-long commitments.

There is distorted blues-rock drifting up to my window, and it’s none-too-great, but it’s okay. It sounds like summer. It’s lulling me into this false sense of I-don’t-have-to-come-up-with-a-90-second-spiel-for-a-poster-session-nor-do-I-have-to-finish-a-dumb-blog-post-nor-move-my-401(k)-from-my-old-job-nor-finish-a-report-for-my-other-class-etc.

My friend is all passionate about drug policy, and I’m really, really envious of her passion. I’m not feeling any of that for this information thing. I also feel less passionate about things when I’m surrounded by people who are “passionate” about it. But I’m pretty sure no has ever been passionate about information, or information access, ever. Not as a...
Street harassment getting worse
cherryteresa:
Tonight*, I was alone in a parking garage, walking to my car with another guy walking behind me. He hollered “Hey Mami”. I just kept walking. He said “Hey Mami, come talk to me.” I kept walking. He screamed loudly, “Fuck you, you stupid bitch, do you know who I am?” I firmly said “I don’t have to talk to you, you are being rude”. He said “HEY!… HEY! I’m talking to you!” I said...

I’m working from home today and it’s delightful. 2 extra hours spent not commuting is fabulous. I also have a new computer that has Windows 8 and is totally confusing and WHY DID THEY CHANGE WHERE EVERYTHING IS? But it’s shiny, and I’ve moved my files over.
The future is blurry and dark, and my god I am so not excited at the most tangible job prospects out there. I just...

You know how it is when you’ve written nothing for yourself for a couple of weeks, and it becomes so hard to even think about writing without having some outside enforcement and structure; and you feel really gross, like parts of your brain have died; and you still can’t get back on the horse because you have some more dumb assignments that are taking you farther from your goal, your...

infoneer-pulse:
Educational publisher Elsevier is diving deeper into the world of open and social educational data: it has bought Mendeley, the London/New York-based provider of a platform for academics and organizations to share research and collaborate with others via a social network. The terms of the deal have not been publicly disclosed but we understand it is for a sum between $69 million...

I need to write these dumb blog posts for work, and I’m completely over-analyzing how they should be done, convinced that whatever I make, my supervisor will hate it. This is not really a way to get work done. Anyone else have this problem?
Badass Jewish Women: Today is Yom Ha'Shoah →
badassjewishwomen:
Let’s pause to remember the many badass Jewish women who never got to fulfill their potential and make their mark on the world. Let’s celebrate the survivors who looked into the heart of human evil and came out and fought to make the world a better, more beautiful place.

The tooth fairy works hard at her job, but wonders if it’s the right fit for her. She is her own boss, but she works long hours. She is paid in teeth to provide small change, which she has no use for anyway. She will never get much recognition; hardly anyone knows what she actually does most of the time. They know about the teeth but not the behind the scenes stuff. She is not very good at...
